The aim of the 2000 mini register is to trace and to preserve details of the last of the classic minis ever made.
The Cooper Sport 500 register has been in existence since 2003, and continues to track the very last 500 minis ever made. The registers are there to allow owners to discuss, meet and share information of these special cars. The register aims are to ensure the history of the cars are preserved and to help future owners confirm potential purchases are the genuine article.
Whilst the 500's have had a register for some time, the other 2000 classics of equal importance to the mini's last year of history had nothing, with the exception of the Cooper Register who do hold a register for all Rover Coopers.
All the Classic Cooper Sports were of identical specification to the 500's, the last Coopers were made in smaller numbers than the 500, and the classic Se7ens were equally as rare and have no specific club or register until now.
Also of interest are the left hand drive non-UK cars, such as the Knightsbridge.
Already many of these 2000 built cars have been broken up for spares as many fetch more money in bits than they do as complete cars. The late Rover minis do seem to suffer quite badly from the dreaded rot, which sees many cars scrapped and broken up as it is not always cost efficient to refurbish them. Mini owners often spend thousands restoring their pride and joys, but not all are so lucky.
How many of the last 2500 classics and 500's are still in one piece is not known and is a constantly changing figure. The registers will help trace the cars and gather statistics on such matters.
